About US

Our Mission

"To provide the opportunity for local youth to learn the game of baseball and softball, the value of teamwork, the value of respect for others, and to experience healthy competition in a safe environment."

Our Community

We are proud to be a part of the School Hill community and to have the opportunity to give back through our various outreach programs. Our athletes and coaches are actively involved in volunteering, fundraising, and community events, and we are committed to making a positive impact in our city.

Nearly six decades ago in 1971, in a quiet corner of Wisconsin, a group of fathers shared a simple, stubborn dream: they wanted a place for their children to play ball. They didn't have a budget or a municipal grant—they just had a hayfield and a mission.

Armed with tractors and grit, they set to work. They plowed up the tall grass, leveled the earth to carve out an infield, and scavenged for materials. That first "field" was a masterpiece of community improvisation, featuring a patchwork perimeter of used snow fence and a backstop held together by telephone poles and chicken wire. It wasn't fancy, but when the dust settled, those fathers had accomplished exactly what they set out to do.

That first summer, the School Hill Athletic Club consisted of just one team of 15 boys playing on a field built by their own parents' hands.

It is incredible to see how a single hayfield has transformed into a five-diamond complex that serves as the heartbeat of the community. What started with telephone poles and chicken wire has evolved into a permanent home for the sport, now featuring modern amenities like pitching machines, volleyball courts, and even stadium lighting.

Every summer, the legacy of those original fathers lives on as 200 young athletes step onto those fields. From the first pitch in June to the high-stakes Manitowoc County Youth Sports Tournament in August, the club continues to prove that community-funded grit can build something that lasts generations.

What is perhaps most remarkable is that the club hasn't lost its "volunteer heart." Every expansion—from the pitching machines                                                                    to the lights that now illuminate the main baseball diamond—has been paid for and built by the members themselves. There are no corporate owners here; instead, the club is fueled by pizza sales, concession stand snacks, and an annual softball and volleyball tournament. The year concludes with a beloved Fan Appreciation Day, where an auction of items donated by local neighbors and sponsors ensures the club can keep the lights on for another generation.
